Drama at Greenbank: Creativity Comes to Life!
Drama? At Greenbank? You bet! And lots of it: the two words are synonymous! We love our theatrical performances and everyone is included, involved and inspired.
At Greenbank, Drama is more than just an extracurricular activity—it’s an integral part of our school’s vibrant culture. We believe that theatrical performance builds confidence, encourages teamwork, and provides an outlet for creative expression.
Every child is included, inspired, and celebrated, whether they are playing a starring role, supporting in the ensemble, or contributing behind the scenes. From their first line on stage to their final bow, our pupils are encouraged to shine.
Drama in the Curriculum
In Key Stage 2 (KS2), each class enjoys a half-term of weekly drama lessons designed to:
- Teach aspects of stagecraft
- Develop acting techniques
- Explore a variety of theatrical genres
Here’s what to expect:
- Year 3: Pantomime – A lively introduction to drama with exaggerated characters and lots of laughs.
- Year 4: Shakespeare – Bringing the Bard to life with tailored, child-friendly productions.
- Year 5: Straight Play – A deeper exploration of acting and character work.
- Year 6: Musical – A full-scale production showcasing everything pupils have learned.
Each lesson is run as a workshop, ensuring every child gets the chance to step into the spotlight and try out different roles.
The Year 6 Musical: A Showstopper!
The Year 6 Musical is the pinnacle of our drama program and a highlight of the school calendar. Anticipation builds as pupils eagerly await the big announcement—what will this year’s production be?
