Preschool provides care and education for children from the September after they turn 3 years old. Our Preschool is a welcoming, bright, and stimulating environment that is closely integrated with the Reception classroom, providing a seamless learning experience for children as they transition from Preschool to school life.

We are open for 50 weeks of the year, from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm, ensuring that working parents have the flexibility they need. The Preschool is managed by a qualified teacher and a dedicated team of teaching assistants, all working together to provide a nurturing, supportive, and enriching environment that promotes both academic and emotional development.

Our Aims

At Preschool, we are committed to creating a stimulating and nurturing environment where children are encouraged to explore, play, and learn. Our aim is to provide the best preparation for school, whether your child is joining a local school or continuing at Greenbank Preparatory School. We aim to help children grow in confidence, independence, and resilience, setting them up for success as they move forward in their educational journey.

Our curriculum is tailored to each child’s individual developmental needs and interests, allowing them to learn at their own pace with sufficient support or challenge. We provide a rich blend of play-based learning, which is fundamental to early childhood development. Children are encouraged to engage in hands-on, interactive experiences that build skills in literacy, numeracy, social interaction, and emotional development.

Preschool Facilities

Our Preschool benefits from two spacious classrooms that encourage creative play and learning. Additionally, we have a generous outdoor area that allows children to explore the natural world, develop physical skills, and enjoy outdoor learning no matter the weather. We're excited that our Preschool garden renovation is now complete, and the space has been transformed into a wonderful, nature-rich environment that enhances our outdoor learning opportunities.

Inside, children engage in role-play, creative activities, mark-making, and sand play, among others, all designed to nurture their curiosity and creativity. There is also ICT equipment, such as a computer and an Interactive Whiteboard, which help develop children’s digital skills in a fun and interactive way.

Specialist Teaching

In addition to the core curriculum, children benefit from specialist lessons that enhance their overall development:

  • Music and Movement with Mrs Powell on Monday and Friday mornings.
  • Dance with Miss Milli on Thursday mornings.
  • PE with Mrs Lochrie, our school’s games teacher, in the Summer Term.
  • Forest School with Mrs Staples, Mr Hart and Mrs Bradbury
  • Spanish - Kidslingo - Friday Morning

These lessons foster physical development, coordination, and creative expression, while also supporting teamwork and self-discipline.

Preschool Curriculum

Our curriculum is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), which ensures that children are given a broad, balanced, and structured play-based education. We focus on key areas of development:

  • Personal, Social, and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Literacy and Numeracy
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

Children’s learning is tracked and assessed throughout the year, and each child is allocated a Key Person who is responsible for monitoring their progress and working with them to achieve their full potential. We use the Tapestry app to track development and share observations with parents, ensuring you’re always informed about your child’s progress. Class Dojo is also used to communicate with families, keeping you up-to-date with classroom activities.

Preschool Admissions

If you’re interested in enrolling your child in Preschool, please complete our Admissions Enquiry Form. Our Admissions Officer is available to arrange a visit or answer any questions you may have.

Children who turn three by 1st September are eligible to join Preschool. We also occasionally have places available in other year groups, so it’s always worth checking with us for availability.

While we don’t have a formal entrance examination, we invite children to spend a taster day with us. This helps us assess whether our approach aligns with your child’s needs and gives you the opportunity to see our environment firsthand.
