At Greenbank, we have our own onsite apiary, which forms a key part of our sustainability efforts. Our children, from preschool through to Year 6, actively participate in the education, care and management of our beehives, gaining practical experience while learning about the importance of bees in the environment.
Year 5 and Year 6 children work alongside our two qualified beekeeping staff to maintain the hives, harvest honey, and learn about the vital role bees play in pollination. This hands-on approach teaches responsibility, teamwork, and a real-world connection to sustainability.
Beekeeping is integrated into the learning for all year groups, with younger children also gaining an understanding of how bees contribute to the ecosystem. This initiative is part of our broader commitment to environmental education.
One of the highlights of our beekeeping program will be the honey we harvest each year. Visitors to the school will have the opportunity to taste our very own Greenbank honey, a delicious product of our efforts in sustainability and beekeeping.
At Greenbank, we believe in educating children about the natural world and encouraging them to take care of it. Our beekeeping project not only teaches our children about bees but also fosters a deeper respect for the environment.
