Books Being Sent Home – Update

Thank you for your support last week with the children’s ‘books home’ challenge. Could I ask you all to now look at and sign / return your child’s slip showing how they did. I will then keep them as a record for next time we try this task, later in the term.

As a part of the week, it has become apparent that in class we are missing a number of the children’s English textbooks. These have been sent home from time to time over the year as homework and I am concerned that some may be lying around in children’s bedrooms, for example. Could I ask you to have a look at home to see if any might show up – I have mentioned this to the children. The missing books are:

  • Nelson English – Developing Fiction Skills 4
  • Nelson English – Developing Non-Fiction Skills 4

Thank you for your assistance

Year 6 trip to Cheadle Mosque

On Wednesday 21st March Year 6 went to a mosque in Cheadle Hulme. We went because in RE we are studying Muslim culture.

When we arrived we had to take off our shoes and put them on a rack. As soon as we had all taken off our shoes we went into a big hall where we watched an interesting presentation, by a man called Adam. It was about Muslims and how they pray and celebrate; we also learnt about the mosque itself. It was interesting to learn about Ramadhan, when Muslims are not allowed to eat during daylight hours; also the many similarities with Christianity, such as the prophets being the same. We found out that the biggest mosque in the world, in Makkah, can fit a million people!

After that we were split into groups. Our group went to see the washroom where they wash before praying. Then we went back to the big hall and learnt the actions that they do when they pray. Then we swapped with the other group and we dressed up in the clothes they wear.  When we had finished dressing up and the other group had finished doing the praying actions we went to get a biscuit and a drink.

It was a very enjoyable trip and we learnt a lot about Muslim culture. Thank you to Mrs Lowe and Mrs Khan for organising it.
