Bonjour!
Guten Tag!
Hola!
Salvete!
French is taught throughout the school from the age of four. In Reception the children are introduced to the French language through songs and rhymes and as they move through the school their acquisition of the language and understanding of the culture develops, culminating in a residential visit to the Chateau du Broutel, Baie de Somme in Year Six.
In Year Four, German and Spanish are introduced through songs, role play and ICT. The children develop their ability to conduct a simple conversation, whilst broadening their understanding of the culture of the individual country.
Latin, which is an important tool in the children’s understanding of English grammar and other languages, is taught in Year Six.
