Year Six Life at the Top of the School
In their final year, the pupils are prepared for the senior school entrance exams in English, Maths and Reasoning, enabling a range of choice of the most appropriate secondary education. In addition, we aim to develop well-rounded and independent young adults with the self-assurance and confidence to face life beyond Greenbank. Increased responsibilities around the school include positions such as School Captains, House Captains, Librarians and Senior Councillors.
An exciting and relevant curriculum ensures full coverage of the National Curriculum Programmes of Study in Science through practical investigation. Geography topics incorporate physical geography and far-away places as well as environmental studies. In History the pupils consider the events and changes in Britain from the 1930s to the present day, drawing on their own family experiences and visiting the Imperial War Museum North. RE in Year Six focuses on a comparison between Christianity and Judaism whilst the study of Latin and 3 modern languages provides linguistic opportunities (plus useful holiday vocabulary!). The children get an opportunity to practise their skills as well as experiencing some culture during the annual Y6 trip to France in the Spring.
Art and DT foster creativity, PE and Games develop skills as well as the chance to participate in competitive team sports. Attainment in Music and Drama reaches an extremely high level, culminating in a major end of year production in which all the class takes part.
Our Year Six pupils are always sorry to leave Greenbank, but are ready to face the challenges ahead. They frequently maintain the friendships made here for many years and they often return for school events or just to visit. They know and appreciate just how special Greenbank is.
