The Kindergarten Class is an integral part of school and provides high quality education where children learn in a happy, stimulating and caring environment.
All children attend Kindergarten each morning until 1pm and there are optional afternoons available to meet parents’ needs.
Children join Kindergarten in the September following their 3rd birthday. The Kindergarten and Reception classes form the Foundation stage and Kindergarten works closely with Reception to ensure an easy transition as the children move on. Children may also join the class from Greenbank Day Nursery and we work closely with the Nursery staff to ensure an easy transition into the School Kindergarten class.
In the Foundation Stage we follow the Foundation Stage curriculum which sets out six areas of learning :-
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Communication, language and literacy
- Mathematical development
- Knowledge and understanding of the world
- Physical development
- Creative development
The Class Teacher and Teaching Assistants have a wealth of experience and we believe that happy children work to fulfil their potential and we place high emphasis on achieving this through close links between home and school and fostering a caring and secure environment in which children can prosper.
The Kindergarten classroom is a large, happy, colourful and airy environment with a large outdoor area including a multi-sensory garden and wildlife area, quiet areas, and two large wooden play areas to develop children’s large motor skills. Our excellent surrounding means that every day, children in the Foundation Stage have the space, freedom, fresh air, time and resources to work within a safe and secure setting. We believe that children should be given many learning experiences through excellent resources and well planned activities and we value learning through play. We aim to make our role play areas into fun learning environments where children can develop their social and language skills and we believe in encouraging the children to learn though first hand experience. We aim to develop the children’s independence and seek to actively praise all children building confidence and self-esteem.
